Olympiads and spelling bees that Class II students in India can take, how to register, and links to the official websites.

Which Olympiads can my child take?

All of these are open to Class II. The main difference for parents is how you register.

You can register your child yourselfCREST, Indian Talent Olympiad, Unified Council (NSTSE), ISTSE, NOF, Humming Bird and NASO.
Only through the schoolSOF (IMO, ISO, IEO, IGKO, ICSO) and SilverZone. Ask your school's Olympiad coordinator.

Indian Talent Olympiad (ITO)

Individual or school

Individual students (Class 1 to 12) can register online, or through school. There is a monthly online series from home and an annual exam (at school, or online from home for individual entries). Official website →

ISTSE (Indian School Talent Search Exam)

Individual or school

Parents can register directly for the online exam, taken from home. Schools register their students for the paper exam at school. Classes 1 to 10. Official website →

National Olympiad Foundation (NOF)

Individual or school

Online exams that can be taken from home. Register with your school's code, or with the individual code if your school is not registered. Nursery to Class 10. Official website →

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF)

Through school only

Registration is through schools only (“Individual registrations by students are not accepted”). If your school is not taking part, SOF can send the forms to your school. Official website →

SilverZone Foundation

Through school only

Held at school; a school needs at least 40 students to register. Schools that are not registered can ask SilverZone for a prospectus. Official website →

Maths Olympiads

Maths-only contests, including international ones, that accept Class II students from India.

Unicus Mathematics Olympiad (UMO)

Individual or school

Online, 60 minutes, multiple choice, held in July. Parents can register without the school. Unicus also runs a separate winter contest, the Unicus Global Mathematics Olympiad (UGMO), in January. Official website →

Math Kangaroo India (International Mathematical Kangaroo)

Individual or school

Part of a worldwide contest held in 90+ countries. Class 2 sits the “Pre-Ecolier” paper. Schools can register; individually registered students take the exam online. A first round, then a final round. Official website →

IPM All-India Open Mathematics Scholarship Exam

School; ask about individual entry

Run by the Institute for Promotion of Mathematics, Pune, for Standards 2 to 9. Two stages (Final Exam, then Mega Final), held offline at exam centres. Results and certificates go through schools; ask the institute about registering on your own. Official website →

SASMO (Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad)

School; ask about individual entry

Run by SIMCC, Singapore; open from upper KG to Grade 12. Outside Singapore, registration is handled by each country's partner (for India, STEM Olympiad India). Ask the partner whether individual entries are accepted. Official website →

HKIMO (Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad)

Individual or school

Open from Primary 2. Indian students register through the India partner, Global Olympiads Academy; the first round is online, and the final is usually held in Hong Kong or Macau. Official website →

AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad)

Individual or school

Grade 2 is the youngest level. An online qualifying round for India, then an international final. Indian students register through Global Olympiads Academy. (Not the same as the “All India Mathematical Olympiad”.) Official website →

Spelling Bees

Spelling competitions open to Class II. Most accept registration by parents as well as schools.

India Spelling Bee

Individual if school not registered

Classes 1 to 9, at School, Regional and National levels, with a grade-wise guidebook. Parents can register online only if the child's school has not registered. Official website →

International Spell Bee (International Spell Bee Foundation)

Individual or school

One online exam. Parents register each child directly; schools can register in bulk. The Grade 2 list is theme-based (animals, food, clothing and more). Official website →

SpellBee International (SLEP)

Individual or school

Grades 1 to 9. Inter-school, State, National and International rounds, as part of a year-long programme with books. Parents can enrol with the school's code, or as an independent student. Official website →

Spell Bee Academy (SPELLer BEE)

Individual or school

The academy's own weekly online Sunday tests and annual exam, mainly for practice. Parents can register any time. Official website →
